168125 - Copper Nail Square Boat Flat- 4.47 x 115mm (7g)

Solid copper square boat nails with a countersunk head, used for fastening traditional wooden boats.  These nails are driven and either clenched or peened with a rove.

Approximately 50 pieces per kilogram

Driven through a slightly undersize round hole, the square edges on the nail compress the timber, reducing rotational movement of the nail, and allowing for swelling of the timber grains, creating a watertight seal.  

Formed in one piece, the head is shaped from the length of wire, increasing the tensile strength if the nail.
